TransCanada made its final push for the Keystone XL pipeline last week, maintaining in a filing with the State Department that the project is safe and economically beneficial to the U.S. "[T]he project would serve to enhance United States energy security by connecting reliable domestic and Canadian supply sources to refinery markets in the Gulf Coast area with a demonstrated demand for these supplies," TransCanada said in the document. The statement was filed along with thousands of comments on the pipeline as the government's public comment period on the project ended March 7.
