Some schools in Texas and Washington offer dual immersion programs in Vietnamese. Oregon is slated to open a program this fall, and Vietnamese-American parents of students at a school district in California have asked board members to launch the state's first Vietnamese immersion program. "Many of these young parents are professionals, and they themselves felt the disadvantage of not being able to communicate in Vietnamese, and they want that for their children," said Kimoanh Nguyen-Lam, director of the Advanced Training and Research Division in the Office of International and Foreign Language Education.
