Denmark researchers who conducted a review of studies found that too little or too much salt can be harmful to health, and said between 2,645 and 4,945 milligrams of salt a day is the safest range. The study was published in the American Journal of Hypertension. New York University Langone Medical Center clinical nutritionist Samantha Heller said most people do not know how much salt they consume each day. In a statement, the American Heart Association stood by its sodium recommendations.
