NBA Commissioner Adam Silver took a hard line on Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling after recordings surfaced of racist comments he made -- and in the process, Silver ushered in a "new era" for the league, writes J.A. Adande. Previous NBA leaders, along with fans and players, had allowed people like Sterling to go unchallenged for far too long, Adande writes. "Silver can look them in the eye and say he did everything he could to show that a league that's populated by an African-American majority won't tolerate an owner who disparages people based on the color of their skin," he writes.
