Nocturnal hypoglycemia was associated with an eightfold increased odds of slow heart rate as well as higher risk of arrhythmia in insulin-treated type 2 diabetes patients, a small study in the journal Diabetes indicated. Researchers said the findings shed light on how severe hypoglycemia-induced arrhythmias may cause sudden death in patients.
