Louisiana schools would have more time to implement Common Core State Standards and extend testing of national exams by another year under a measure approved this week by a House committee. While critics continue to support scrapping the common core, backers questioned the need for delays. "What it is about is ensuring that we raise expectations and strengthen accountability and go about these things in the right way," said House Speaker Pro Tem Walt Leger III, sponsor of the bill.
