A CDC study involving 75,088 adults showed the majority of those with underlying health conditions were more likely to report influenza-like illness but did not seek care any more quickly than those who didn't have the conditions. Researchers found that seeking health care promptly was linked to a higher antiviral treatment rate. "Our findings highlight the need to educate patients at high risk for influenza complications to seek care early [and] to educate physicians about the benefits of influenza antiviral treatment among high-risk patients," researchers reported in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.
