Michigan boasts more than 9,000 apprentices in registered apprenticeship programs. The number has grown from 7,500 in 2013. Employers and educators expect further growth, especially with President Barack Obama recently announcing $1 million in funding for such programs. "This is something that we've really focused a lot of attention on in the last couple of years," Christine Quinn, director of the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, said, adding: "Apprenticeships seem to be coming back in full force."
