A report in the journal Nutrition Today suggests a range for moderate daily candy consumption of 50 to 100 calories. Co-author and registered dietitian Roberta Duyff cautioned that the intent is not to encourage people to eat treats but to put them in perspective as part of an overall healthy diet. The report said consumers need education and information, not restriction, to guide their dietary habits. "Defining moderation in candy consumption might be a first step toward developing possible guidance for other types of foods," said co-author and RD Betsy Hornick.
