University of California, Berkeley, researchers are developing a wearable device that can create a 3D map of the interior layout and energy efficiency of a building using sensors. The device, which began as a military project, is worn as a backpack and doesn't require additional expertise to operate or to download the data. The pack, called the Rapid Building Energy Modeler, can be used to improve building efficiency or to monitor a subcontractor's work progress, its developers said.
