A Vermont syrup maker has turned to a tracking system of solar battery-powered radio units and smartphones to detect line leaks, a common problem caused by falling tree limbs and small animals. Meadowbrook Maple Syrup installed the Tap Track system in which data transferred to the phone appears as a map of green and red dots denoting good lines along with leaks. If there is a problem, the syrup producers will receive a text message alert.
