As business and technology become more intricately entwined, IT experts say their counterparts in non-tech departments are taking a bigger hand in IT purchasing decisions, with more than a third of enterprise technology spending now originating outside the IT department, according to a survey by the consulting firm Avanade. The poll of more than 1,000 C-level executives found that while there is still widespread respect for the role of IT, 71% of C-suiters say they can make faster, more effective decisions if they circumvent the IT department.
