Obesity, not poor diet, may be linked to an increased risk of colon cancer, according to a study from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The study, which focused on the NAG-1 gene, found mice that did not have the gene gained weight when fed a high-fat diet and exhibited genetic patterns resembling those found with colorectal cancer.
