An international assemblage of more than 500 high-school and college teams will be participating in this year's NASA's Human Exploration Rover Challenge, which launches today in Huntsville, Ala. The task is to produce a human-powered rover that can maneuver through a Mars-like landscape but, according to new rules, without using inflatable tires. A team from Ohio State University came up with the idea of using split tennis balls stuffed into mountain bike tires.
