Robot musicians push music making beyond human limits with a 78-fingered guitarist, a 22-armed drummer and a keyboardist with lasers in place of hands. The Z-Machines, developed by roboticists at the University of Tokyo, lack some of the nuances peculiar to human players but can be blazing fast, as demonstrated on their new extended play, "Music for Robots."
