Enterprises in the midst of a merger or acquisition must pay special attention to the data protection practices of their targets and that of their vendors or risk absorbing a cybersecurity nightmare at the end of the deal, according to Jason Weinstein of Steptoe & Johnson. The recent high-profile breach at Target demonstrated that poor cybersecurity protocol has a domino effect and a weak link anywhere in the vendor chain can allow cybercriminals to circumvent even well-protected companies, he said.
