Students spend only a fraction of their time in school, which is not enough for schools to address obstacles students may face in their personal lives, Paul Reville, of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, writes in this commentary. He notes that an ideal education system would avoid the one-size-fits-all approach and "close gaps in students' health and well-being, making it possible for each child to attend school daily and to be fully attentive and supply motivated effort when in school."
