Barclays is shedding 7,000 jobs and shifting its focus from investment banking to other businesses. CEO Antony Jenkins described the strategy as a "bold simplification" that would make the bank leaner and less volatile -- an assessment with which investors and analysts largely agreed. "Barclays may have failed, but its ambitions weren't in its owners' best interests in the first place," writes James Saft.
