California voters could be asked on the 2016 ballot to repeal a 1998 law that mandated English only instruction in the state's schools. The state Senate Education Committee approved the bill with an 8-0 vote. "The top educational systems around the world all require students to learn multiple languages," said Sen. Ricardo Lara, who led the proposal. "New research has shown that children have an innate ability to absorb multiple languages at once, where previously it was thought to confuse them."
