Death rates vary significantly by state, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Tom Frieden, citing a new report from the agency. Colorado and Utah are among the healthiest states, while many of the least-healthy states are in the Southeast. Differences in mortality rates can be attributed to regional variations in obesity rates, smoking habits, diet and other factors, Frieden said. "Your longevity and health are more determined by your ZIP code than they are by your genetic code," he said.
