A new dialysis machine called CARPEDIEM, or Cardio-Renal Pediatric Dialysis Emergency Machine, was safely used to treat infants with kidney failure, according to a report in the journal The Lancet. It was first used on an infant weighing 6.3 pounds with multiple organ failure, and after 20 days the infant was taken off the machine.
