A Florida Winn-Dixie hosted a supermarket tour on Tuesday aimed at helping food desert residents and federal food assistance recipients learn about healthful shopping and cooking. The tour, part of the Florida Introduces Physical Activity and Nutrition to Youth program, challenged shoppers to read labels and stick to the store's perimeter, where the freshest foods are found. "A lot of the time I see single moms ringing up $100 and $200 worth of groceries at the register with not a single wholesome meal in the purchase. That's why I support this program," said Ron Daniels, store manager at the Winn-Dixie location.
