A German shorthaired pointer named Willow is specially trained to help Dawn Scheu of Gregory, Mich., avoid gluten. Scheu, who has refractory celiac disease, says Willow accompanies her to the grocery store and is about 90% accurate in sniffing out foods that contain gluten. She also may detect gluten in packaging, even if the food does not include it.
