BIM, as part of integrated project delivery, is a top-down process, but it is still the client who decides what level of BIM will be used. This makes measuring its benefits difficult since the process seldom makes it to the facilities-management level, contends the Meinhardt Group. Nathan Taffard, a BIM leader at Meinhardt, suggests that this problem can be overcome by assigning a BIM consultant to the project to work on the client's behalf, integrating BIM from the beginning, to set "specific BIM targets and constantly evaluate the deliverable against those expected outcomes." In this way, it's possible to measure what is saved.
