Dr. Emma Guttman-Yassky, a dermatologist and researcher at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, has identified molecules that cause eczema and discovered a lymphocyte known as Th22 that might play a role in atopic dermatitis. "She really is changing the world," said American Academy of Dermatology President Mark Lebwohl, the chief of dermatology at Mount Sinai. Existing eczema drugs can have serious side effects, and Guttman-Yassky is testing new drugs that target specific immune pathways.
