A six-year, $265 billion transportation bill has been approved by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. The legislation would reauthorize the gas tax to help provide $204 billion in financing for transportation projects. "The fact that a new highway and transit bill proposed by Sens. Vitter and Boxer received the bipartisan backing of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee shows members of both parties understand the value of investing in our aging surface transportation systems," said Stephen Sandherr, Associated General Contractors of America CEO.
