A Commonwealth Fund report that assessed each state on 34 quality indicators, including readmission and mortality rates, found the majority did not show improvements or had decreasing scores on two-thirds of the measures between 2007 and 2012. Overall, there was improvement in hospital readmission rates and safe prescribing, but data from 13 states showed progress in some areas was matched or exceeded by setbacks in others.
