A Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee held a hearing Thursday during which some lawmakers called for new rules to protect consumers from ads infected with malware. Executives from Google and Yahoo defended their efforts to police ads and said bad actors should be held to account. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., warned against legislation "written by people that aren't even close to as agile and as flexible and as knowledgeable" as top technology firms.
