Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., have introduced the "Stop Subsidizing Childhood Obesity Act," which would end tax deductions for advertising aimed at children of certain foods and beverages that have "poor nutritional quality." Similar legislative attempts have stalled in the past, but the ad industry is watching the threat closely. "You open this door and I can assure you, there will be a tremendous number of people trying to rush through it," said Dan Jaffe, ANA's executive vice president of government relations.
