U.S. children who eat a bowl of cereal each day may get up to 10 pounds of sugar per year, according to an Environmental Working Group study that included 1,500 cereals. The study says cereals marketed to children contained about 40% more sugar than adult varieties. Also, a follow-up review of 84 cereals studied in 2011 showed that the sugar content remained at an average of 29%, but that some products had increased sugar content since 2011.
