Uncertainty remains around the rules the Financial Stability Oversight Council could impose on asset managers that are deemed systemically important financial institutions, a designation that at least two firms could face in the year ahead, writes Cady North, senior finance analyst with Bloomberg Government. Tougher regulations may involve new reporting requirements, activities- or product-based rules, or curbs on the leverage that asset managers use, North writes.
