Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp can appear similar to squamous cell carcinoma, and a biopsy of inflamed, crusty scalp lesions was necessary to determine the cause, according to dermatologists presenting a case study. EPDS responds to photodynamic therapy and topical steroids, though systemic treatment might be necessary. "It is probably more common than we think. It is likely underrecognized and undertreated because it tends to present in older patients," said dermatology resident Ariel Burns.
