Amazon is touting rapid growth of its application store and trying to attract app developers ahead of rolling out a long-anticipated smartphone, saying more than 240,000 apps are available, nearly triple the number on offer a year ago. Google and Apple both offer more than 1 million apps in their stores.
Google says its Cloud Platform will benefit from a pair of upgrades designed to make it more responsive and improve user friendliness. The company said it's tapping persistent flash storage and HTTP load balancing to augment the Andromeda software-defined networking platform that powers its cloud offering. Google said load balancing will enable the network to better handle capacity demand and eliminate "warm up" time between data requests.

Ads on Facebook for applications will be able to take users to Apple's App Store or Google's Play Store for installation with a one-click option newly offered by Facebook. The update also makes app ads look more like other ads on the social network to boost engagement.
Twitter has launched Vine for the Web, allowing users to see Vine videos in full-screen television mode, among other features. This is version 1.0 of Vine for the Web, and additional features are said to be in development.
