Advanced cancer patients and caregivers benefited when palliative care services were provided to both with the diagnosis rather than delaying onset for months, according to a study presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting. Researchers from the University of Alabama School of Nursing in Birmingham said that caregivers and patients in the Charting Your Course intervention reported better quality of life and that patients had longer survival times at one year when palliative care was offered early.
