The market for flight simulators is crowded, with at least eight manufacturers producing the devices. In order to get ahead, manufacturers have had to add additional features, rather than just lower prices. FlightSafety says the rigid glass display in its new FS1000 eliminates distortion at the edge of a pilot's field of view, and it uses only seven hard keys in its operating system. "[Pilots] don't like hard buttons -- they want iPhone-like touch technology," said Nidal Sammur, FlightSafety's director of engineering.
