A surge of unaccompanied minors crossing the border into the U.S. -- more than 50,000 since last October -- and mostly from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras has created a need for additional funding in schools. One Maryland district reports serving more than 200 unaccompanied minors during the last school year, up from around 75 such students in previous years.
