The Affordable Care Act's focus on public health and disease prevention has gone largely unnoticed amid public debate about the law, but implementation of the Prevention and Public Health Fund and the National Prevention Strategy continues. The Prevention Fund will allow insurer billing by public health systems for immunizations and other services, and private-sector health care providers will be able to provide referrals to community programs. Another ACA program will require nonprofit hospitals to conduct community needs assessments.
