Insurers should strive to clarify the language in their policies, especially in light of a federal appeals court ruling that claims triggering an umbrella policy don't necessarily have to be covered by that policy, writes lawyer Burke Coleman. "[I]nsurers should explicitly outline their expectations within the terms of the agreement and ensure that the provisions work together to represent the intentions of the parties," Coleman writes.
