Australian researchers have found that the experimental drug compound WEHI-916 can kill the malaria parasite by blocking plasmepsin V, an enzyme that allows the parasite to move from the liver to the blood. The study in the journal PLOS Biology shows that plasmepsin V is necessary for the parasite's survival, researcher Justin Boddey said.
