Women who own businesses told a Senate committee last week that they need increased access to capital. Also, a federal procurement program that sets aside contracts for women should gain sole source authority, said Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., chairwoman of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee. A committee report also called for updating, reauthorizing and increasing spending for the Small Business Administration's Women's Business Centers program.
