Two years ago, modern civilization as we know it nearly came to an end when a large blast from a solar storm entered our obit, nearly close enough to cause significant damage, according to a report from NASA. Scientists say that had it occurred just one week earlier, the solar eruption -- which was on par with an 1859 space storm known as the Carrington event -- could have caused trillions of dollars worth of damage by knocking out electrical grids and other critical infrastructure.
