Over 2,000 people in Tioga, N.D., last week celebrated North Dakota's milestone of surpassing the million-barrel-per-day mark in oil production. "Until April, only Texas, one Canadian province and 19 countries were producing 1 million barrels per day, putting North Dakota among the top oil producers in the entire world," North Dakota Petroleum Council President Ron Ness said. The state's Bakken Shale play produced 1,001,149 barrels of oil per day in April.
