Operators who used a left radial approach to perform PCI were exposed to about half as much radiation as those using a right approach, according to a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Interventions. The study, which tracked five clinicians during 100 procedures, found little difference between the two approaches in terms of discomfort, despite perceptions that the left approach is more painful, risky and difficult for operators.
