The adoption of connected device services, also known as the Internet of Things, will require 30% of wireless carrier to upgrade their networks and devices due to the expected demand for the services, according to a Light Reading survey. Also this week, Intel said it has joined the race for an open-source standard governing connected devices with the establishment -- along with Samsung Electronics and Dell -- of the Open Interconnect Consortium. The group is going up against the AllSeen Alliance founded by Intel rival Qualcomm.
