U.S. orders for durable goods rose 22.6% to a record high in July, thanks to a 318% surge in orders for civilian aircraft and parts. MAPI Foundation economist Cliff Waldman warns that the backlog from order to production of new aircraft is seven years. "Thus, for concerns about the current economy, it is important to consider the data excluding the unusual jump in aircraft demand."
