Bioplastics are still a niche market, but that could change, thanks to the growing concern for sustainability by companies such as Target, Procter & Gamble and Wal-Mart Stores, writes Frank Esposito. Marc Verbruggen, CEO of U.S.-based bioplastics maker NatureWorks, said corporate pro-sustainability efforts benefit the industry. "If Wal-Mart says, 'Here's what I'm going to do,' then it practically becomes global legislation," Verbruggen said at a conference earlier this year.
