For instance, at one drilling site, Anadarko Petroleum has used recycling and pipelines to remove wastewater from fracking sites and hay bales to reduce the sound of engines. "We have to demystify [fracking], to help people see it as compatible with their lives. That's our industry's challenge," said Alex Hohmann, stakeholder relations manager at Anadarko.
