Carriers may be able to manage growing data traffic jams by deploying 4G technology over 5GHz spectrum reserved for Wi-Fi networks. Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo and Chinese vendor Huawei Technologies said they have conducted tests that shoot Long-Term Evolution data down 5GHz bands at speeds of up to 100 megabits per second. Providing carriers with more bandwidth by deploying LTE at 5GHz in tandem with Wi-Fi has shown "great potential," DoCoMo said.
