The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority assessed broker-dealers and associates $42.4 million in fines during the first six months of 2014, a 49% increase from last year. That pace would bring the highest annual fine total since 2006, according to law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. However, the total number of disciplinary actions in the first half was down slightly.
