Plastic surgeons at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital fashioned two ears for a 9-year-old boy born without them, using cartilage cut from six of the boy's ribs. Though the surgery is considered cosmetic, it is transformative, surgeons say. "If you can change the confidence of a patient at this young age, you can change their whole trajectory in life," said plastic surgeon Neil Bulstrode, who performed the procedure.
